The Full Story

Martyn Nelson Plastering

Terms and conditions

Thank you for choosing Martyn Nelson Plastering to carry out work in your home or premise. I endeavour to deliver my work to the highest standards. Please read the following terms and conditions.

Quotes and Extras

You will receive your quote based on the work agreed at the time of quoting, for which you will need to provide a contact name, address, email address and phone number.

If unforeseen additional work has to be undertaken to complete the project to satisfactory standard, you will receive an additional quote for this extra work. You will need to agree to this additional charge in written word (email, text, letter) before the project can be finalised.

This also applies to extra work undertaken due to the customer changing their project preference (example: different materials, different paints, insulation preferences, etc). All extras will be added clearly to the final invoice.

Please note: Waste removal is strictly not included in the price. Waste removal and skips need to be arranged by the customer.

Deposits

At the time of booking there is a non-refundable booking deposit of £50. Additionally, for larger jobs a materials deposit will be required prior to starting the job. Deposits made will be deducted from the final bill.

If you need to change the date please contact Martyn directly at least 14 working days before the work is due to commence. If contacted before this cut-of date we can agree on a new date free of charge.

If you request a new date within 14 days of the job starting, you will lose the £50 booking deposit. Your materials deposit is non-refundable when the job is cancelled within 14 days of starting. You will retain your materials deposit when you rebook the project in agreement with Martyn Nelson Plastering.

Sickness

If I’m off sick and work cannot be done at the agreed date then I will try and fit you in as soon as possible once better, no fee will have to be paid until work is complete.

Project preparation

I expect the following preparations to be completed before undertaking the work agreed:

Wallpaper
When stripping wallpaper ALL paper, including lining paper must be removed FULLY. If any fragments remain these need to be removed and you will be charged as an additional extra.

Silicon and painters mate
Please remove ALL silicon and painters mate from around all door frames, windows and skirting boards.

Electrics

Please ensure electrics are removed by a professional electrician to ensure a safe work environment. This includes removal of face-plates (fronts) of sockets and light switches, light fittings (removed or taken down). Be aware that the electrics in the room may need to be isolated, which may impact the access to electrics in your house during the duration of the work.

Plumbing

Radiators must be turned off, removed and moved out of the room before work can commence. Plastering is affected by the emperature in the space. Ideally the temperature is between 10-20 degrees Celsius.

Fittings

Please remove any fittings from the room, which includes shelving, curtain rails, nails and screws.

Working conditions

When I undertake the work in your home or premises, please ensure you facilitate the following conditions:

  1. Make sure the room I am working is complete free of furniture and other obstacles (i.e. sofas, beds, wardrobes, cabinets). Please contact me in advance if this can’t be done. I’ll need to access all floor space for platforms/scaffolding and an area for tools and mixing so a clear floor space is necessary for my Health and Safety.

  2. Please reserve a parking space for my van, as close to the home or premises as possible. This might mean moving your own vehicle elsewhere for the time being.

  3. Please consider allocating outdoor space to store tools and materials for the duration of the project.

  4. I also try to mix plaster outside where possible so moving cars out the way of dust is also advisable.

  5. Please make sure pets and kids are kept away from the working environment.

  6. Please clear halls and gangways so they are free of clutter, due to heavy materials which need to be loaded into the work space.

  7. Martyn Nelson Plastering will not be held responsible for damage to any items left in gangways, halls or the work space/rooms.

Warranty

I provide a 12-month warranty on my workmanship.  However, this does include wear and tear and damages incurred by additional building work or incidents (bad weather, leaking roofs, etc).

Payments

Once the work is completed you will be invoiced at earliest convenience. The payment needs to be completed within 7 days of the invoice date, unless otherwise agreed. If payment is not made within this strict time frame you will endure a 10% extra charge on your final price, per week.

Failure to settle the account when reminded by Martyn Nelson Plastering will automatically start legal claims proceedings at the FULL rate of invoice. All legal costs, late payments fees, and additional labour fees can be added to the invoice as a decision by Martyn Nelson Plastering. There will be a weekly interest of 10% applied to any long-term outstanding debts until payment is cleared in full.
